Notes
Birth
Harriet Fletcher, relying on the Rice Cemetery Survey by Raymond Buker, listed 7 September 1817 as Benjamin Heistand's birth, but this seems too early. Benjamin's parents, Henry Heistand and Elizabeth Newcomer, would have been 14 and 10, respectively.Death
Benjamin Hiestand died in Andersonville Prison during the Civil War. Another source, either Thomas Williams or Harriet Fletcher, gave 6 February 1858 as Benjamin Heistand's death date.Burial
Benjamin F. Hiestand has two tombstones: one at the Andersonville National Cemetery and the other in the Silver Creek Cemetery, Leaf River, Illinois.Endnotes
