Martin Bar, Jr. was one of nine Mennonite families living in Ittlingen, Palatinate, Germany who, on 14 May 1715, signed the petition protesting restrictions on Anabaptists. He came to America in 1717. On 17 October 1717, Martin bought 400 acres in present-day East Lampter Township. He was a Mennonite minister and bishop in Lampeter, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Under the name "Mardin Behr," he signed the Mennonite petition to the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1755.
Theodore Herr, page 2, gave Reverend John Barr as Martin Barr's father, but on page 797 this was corrected to Martin Barr, Sr. Martin Barr, Sr. "signed The Christian Confession of ... Mennonists (1727) for 'Canastoge' [Conestoga]."
