Lillian Gish was a well known actress. She lived in New York City and came to know a neighbor, Gladys Smith, who was a child actress. Gladys, better know as Mary Pickford, introduced the sisters to director D. W. Griffith. Lillian would star in D. W. Griffiths' "Birth of a Nation" in 1915.
