John Jacob Sharer
(28 Nov 1847 - 2 Aug 1922)
John Sharer worked as a reporter and a mail clerk for many years. In 1877 he bought the Independent of Mount Morris, changed the name to the Ogle County Democrat and edited the paper until 1886. He then moved to Missouri and Oklahoma before returning to Mount Morris in 1902. He was the local editor of the Mount Morris Index until he retired in 1920.
