Michael Witwer Senior

Michael Witwer, Sr. was a tavern keeper. From 1824 to 1827, he ran the "Sign of the Green Tree" in New Holland, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. From 1827 to 1834, he ran an inn in Reamstown, Cocalico Township, Pennsylvania. Next, he ran the "Gross's Hotel" in Earl Township. By 1840, he resided in Brecknock Township.

According to Denise Lahr and Thomas Richards, it is likely that Michael Witwer, Sr. fathered a son outside of marriage. A boy Michael was born 8 July 1813 to Michael Witwer and Susan Stauffer.
