David R. "Rock" Hager

David Hager served in the 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry of the US Army during the Civil War under General Gregg of Pennsylvania. He fought at the battles of Cold Habor in June 1894 and of Appomattox Courthouse, plus 6 other major battles and many skirmishes.
David Hager worked as a stone mason until 1881. From 1881 to 1889, he sold machinery and phosphate. In 1889 he began farming. He was apponted superintendent of the Washington County almshouse in 1898, replacing the unexpired term of Albert Seibert. At the end of the term, he was not reappointed, but two years later he was again appointed superintendent.
