Individual Details
Ulrich Sherk Senior
(9 Mar 1663 - 3 Jul 1739)
Ulrich Sherck may have been jailed in Bern, Switzerland on 1710 July 27 for being an Anabaptist and deported in 1711. Ulrich and his family may have been among the Anabaptists that arrived in Muiden, Holland on 1711 August 3 aboard the Emmenthaler.
Whatever their background, the family landed in Philadelphia 23 August 1728 aboard the Mortonhouse. Settling first in Lancaster, Ulrich and family moved to Schoenek in Cocalico Township around 1735.
There is much confusion about the Newcomers and the Shirks. I have relied on the summaries by Allan Garber.
