Hans Witwer Junior
(Abt 1671 - 8 Mar 1741)
Hans Wittwer (later, the family changed the surname to "Witwer") was the first of his family to come to America. He probably arrived in 1717. Hans was a close friend of Theodorus Eby. They probably emigrated together. Hans operated a mill.
Caution is needed to distinguish two families with similar names. Hans Witwer and his son, Michael, is this family. There also was a John Witmer and his son, Michael, that also arrived in America around the year 1717.

Hans Witwer, Jr. married twice, but I don't know the names of either wife. Please see Denise Lahr and Thomas Richards' article on "The Witwer Family of Earl Township," pages 16-17 for an explanation of what is known about the children and parentage. Here, I will note that Hans Witwer, Jr. and his second wife was the widow of Hans Gerber. Furthermore, Hans Witwer, Jr. refers to his stepson, Hans Gerber, in his will.Marriage
