I am not sure how the following information pertains to Michael Hammong, but I have left it in in hopes of discovering the connection.
From The Torch Light (newspaper) of Hagerstown, Maryland on 13 October 1818 gave the following account: Sheriff's Sale - WITMER
On the 4th of November at Henry WITMER's Mill near Hagerstown and the Conococheague Creek, a tract of land containing 130 acres, will be sold lying on the West side of the Conococheague, adjoining the lands of Jacob KNODE, Jacob KERSHNER and the heirs of John WACHTELL. Improvements consist of a log house and stable; 70 acres are well timbered.
