Charles Andrew and Joseph Lahr believed that Elizabeth's maiden surname was "Hernley," but could not verify it. Grace Wagner Evans, in the "Readers' Ancestry" in Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage of July 2004, thought that "Schneider" might be Elizabeth's maiden surname. In addition, Grace Evans listed "Hernly" as the wife of Philip, Sr. and Elizabeth's son, Philip, Jr.
