Individual Details

Samuel Oberholtzer Senior

(Abt 1755 - Abt 19 Aug 1822)

Samuel Oberholtzer's home held Mennonite services for many years. Around 1800 a log structure was built on his property to house the Rothsville (Rabbit Hill) Mennonite meeting house. This was the first church of any denomination in the Hess-Landis Valley and the Hammer Creek Districts. Around 1856, this log structure was replaced with a brick structure that became the Hess Meetinghouse.
