Emanuel Newcomer came to Mount Morris from Maryland in 1844. The trip from Hagerstown, Maryland, in a covered wagon took 42 days. He joined the Church of the Brethren in 1864 at Pine Creek, Illinois, and became a minister in 1869 and an elder in 1888.
