Rachel Horst met her husband, Robert Stoltzfus, while attending Hesston College in Kansas. Rachel taught in Hydro, Oklahoma. Later, her husband and she started two congregations in Madisonville, Louisiana, and served as pastors at Caney Creek Mennonite Church in Hardshell, Kentucky. In 1971 they moved to Harrisonburg, Pennsylvania, where she worked in the cafeteria at Eastern Mennonite College.
