John D. NEWCOMER

John Newcomer went to work at his father's, Jonathan Newcomer, mill at age 16. At age 30 he became the postmaster at Benevola, appointed by President Buchanan. Later, he was the bookeeper at First National Bank of Hagerstown. Next, he worked several months in the United States Sub-Treasury in Baltimore, Maryland under Peter Negley. Peter Negley may be John's first cousin. He then return to the First National Bank as a cashier, a career that last more than 40 years. John Newcomer was a Republican and a member of the Christian Church in Hagerstown.
