Harriet Fletcher listed Daniel Wingert's middle name as "Newcomer." Daniel moved to Winchester, Ohio from Maryland when he was 11. He came to Illinois in 1846 and purchased a farm at Franklin Grove. In 1875 he opened a grocerty store in Mount Morris, Illinois known as D. L. Wingert and Company. He also worked as a plasterer and stone mason.
