Peter Negley

(29 Aug 1818 - 7 Jun 1884)

Peter Negley graduated from Mercersburg College in 1844. He studied the law with J. Dixon Roman in Hagerstown, Maryland, and gained admittance to the bar in 1848. In 1851, running as a Whig Party candidate, he lost the election for States Attorney to Thomas Harbine, the Democrat Party candidate. In 1870, he was appointed by President Ulysses Grant as the United States Sub-Treasurer at Baltimore, Maryland. Peter also served as president of the Hagerstown Agricultural Implement Manufacturing Company.
