William Newcomer served in the US Army from 1871 to 1876. He served with General Custer, mustering out just two weeks before Custer's "Last Stand." William then returned to Mount Morris and ran a grocery store with his father, Andrew Newcomer. After his father's death in 1885, William's brother, Arthur, joined him in the store. He never had children.
