Jacob Gantz graduated from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania in 1872. In 1876 he moved to Sidney, Nebraska, and in 1877, to Rapid City, South Dakota. Jacob was elected register of deeds in 1882, and served till 1889. In 1902 he was elected as court clerk, and served at least until 1915, when this information was written. He was a Democrat.
Jacob Gantz belonged to the Christian Science Church, the Masons and the Knights of Pythias, and the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks.
