Thomas Warfield Simmons Senior

(16 Jun 1836 - 30 Dec 1905)

Thomas Simmons graduated from Landon Military Academy in 1857 and from Jefferson Medical College in 1861. Thomas was the first medical officer for Washington County, Maryland in 1892. Two medical inventions are his: an extension splint for fractures of the legs and a gold needle for prevention of lockjaw from puncture wounds. He also served as a director of the Second National Bank of Hagerstown, Maryland, and of the Hagerstown and Waynesboro Turnpike Company. He was president of the Cearfoss Turnpike Company. Thomas Simmons was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
