James Willard "Willard" Bowman

Willard Bowman graduated from Bridgewater College with a license as a minister. Willard meet Mary Alice Ankrum in French class at Bridgewater. Instead of continuing to seminary, Willard returned to the farm to assume management as his father was in poor health. He was a life-long member of the Bethlehem Church of the Brethren. Willard also served a number of congregations as pastor: Grottoes, Pleasant Hill, Fremont, Bethany, Ferrum, and Boones Chapel (now renamed Lighthouse).
Willard and Mary Alice Bowman hosted students from France, Ireland, Kenya and Russia. They also helped resettle refugees from Vietnam.
