Individual Details
(1775 - 18 Dec 1814)
Martin Landis may have been the first Mennonite settler in Fairfield County, Ohio. He visited the Hocking Valley and Zane's Tract in 1798, and returned with his family in 1799. First, he settled two miles south of Lancaster, Ohio, but moved in 1800 to present-day Madison Township. The local Mennonists meet in the bar of the local tavern until Martin built a two-story Mennonite Meetinghouse.
