Jacob Boehm, Jr. was a "United Empire Loyalist." During the Revolutionary War, he was arrested, clapped in irons and fine 500 Pounds for aiding in the escape of several British troops. After his release, he moved to Mansfield, New Jersey, where he was deeply influenced by Baptist preachers. In 1788, he and his family immigrated to Canada where he founded a Baptist community in Clinton Township. In 1808, he donated land for the Beamsville Baptist Church, the first Baptist Church in Ontario, Canada.
