Martin Mellinger immigrated to America in 1772 aboard the Crawford along with his sister, Maria, and brothers, Jacob and Benedict. They were orphans. During the Revolutionary War, he was fined for refusing to serve in the military. Martin was ordained a deacon in 1790, served the Mellinger Mennonite Church until his death in 1842. He bought 36 acres in Lampeter Township in 1792.
