Jacob Mumma operated a mill called Orndorff Mill along Antietam Creek at the Sharpsburg Turnpike. He also farmed the land near the mill.
Joshua Newcomer bought the mill and was the owner during the Battle of Antietam. It is now owned by the National Park Service, and known as the Newcomer House in the Antietam National Battle Field.
