Pvt. Robert Gartmann, USA, son of Mrs. Robert Gartmann (Thelma Stayberg) of Woodville, has completed his basic training at Ft. Campbell, Ky, and Fort Polk, La. After a three week furlough he left last Thursday for Fort Lewis, Washington from where he will be sent to his overseas duty station.
Pvt. Gartmann stopped in Riverside, Calif., to visit his brother, Tony, before reporting to his station at Ft. Lewis.
He is the grandson of Mrs. J.A. Stayberg, 1217 12th St.

Robert J. Gartmann, 22, who was wounded in Vietnam in October, has been flown back to the States. He arrived Friday at Fort Riley, Kansas, and will be hospitalized at Irvin Army Hospital for 6 to 8 months.
Gartmann, who has a shattered hip joint and other injuries, has been in hospitals in Vietnam and Japan. He is the sone of Mrs. Robert J. Gartmann (Thelma Stayberg) and a grandson of Mrs. J.A. Stayberg.
His brother, Anthony, who works in Iowa, flew to Fort Riley Saturday for a visit and returned Sunday to St. Paul.

"Bobby is absolutely the best ever. He's just as good and just as patient
as you are, and were, as a baby. I wish he'd start to talk. He says Mamama
and mumbles or jumbles other utterances, but not that we can make out. He
understands though. Tonight Thelma said, "Bobby are you going to kiss Pop &
Mom?" He turned around and walked the length of the dining room, over to the
door to Pop and put up his little face for a smacker, then he came right to me.
Different things we say to him, he seems to understand, but says nothing in
answer."
