She served coffee rather than tea because sugar was so expensive and the family used sugar in their tea. Her gravestone in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stillwater MN reads: Magney, Anna M. C., d. 01 Dec 1886, aged 81 years. Catherine evidently sold the farm in 1857 (two years after her husband drowned), but she held the mortgage and Michael J. got the land back in 1862 with a sherrif's deed (deed in possession of Jack Bujalski).
