The following is from an email from Dorothy which I received 19 Dec 2002:
News flash: Dawn is being transferred to Brussels for a couple of years. I'm not sure how long they are actually going to be there. Maybe they don't know exactly either. Life changes in the corporate world by the day! I'm not sure what Mark's arrangements are with his work, but he is going over there with her and the kids. She leaves in January to get set up and I don't know when everyone else goes. I'm assuming she has to find housing and set up in the work world first. We just foundout about this the other day, and haven't found out any of the details yet.

What is Six Sigma?
The term sigma is taken from a letter in the Greek alphabet and is used in statistics as a measure of variation. Six Sigma Quality is a term used generally to indicate that a process is well-controlled, i.e., ±3 sigma from the centerline in a control chart. The term is usually associated with Motorola, which named one of its key operational initiatives "Six Sigma Quality." ASQ's Online Glossary.
Six Sigma principles work not just in manufacturing and electronics, where Six Sigma originated, but in any business, from banking and financial services to chemicals, pharmaceuticals, utilities, health care--even the entertainment industry.
More and more companies are realizing that they can achieve dramatic results when they apply Six Sigma methods to improving process quality.
That's because Six Sigma methodology requires careful measurement and analysis of business processes.
Basically, Six Sigma is a high-performance, data-driven approach to analyzing the root causes of business problems and solving them. It ties the outputs of a business directly to requirements of the marketplace.
Six Sigma Goals
At the strategic level: Align an organization keenly to its marketplace and deliver real improvements (and dollars) to the bottom line.
At the operational level: Move business product or service attributes fully within the zone of customer specifications and dramatically shrink process variation, the cause of defects that negatively affect customers.
Most companies today operate at around three sigma, which translates into roughly 67,000 defects per million operations.
Achieving six sigma at the output of a business process decreases the number of defects to 3.4 per million.
Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Requirements
Six Sigma Black Belt requires two completed projects with signed affidavits or one completed project with signed affidavit and three years work experience within the Six Sigma Body of Knowledge.
