The Crow Rock Ranch (p37)
The original owner was a man named Naylor in the year of 1897 or 98.
The next owner of the place was a Canadian named Penman, who built a huge stone house into the hill with rock walls two feet thick and huge cottonwood logs for beams. He also built a big barn or sheep shed. He and his wife did all the work using native stone, ash trees and a little lumber. This house still stands, though the roof has been changed and the building enlarged.
Mr. Penman developed the ranch into a very successful sheep operation, running about 6,000 sheep. In 1903, Penman sold to Cook-Buffington Sheep Company.
