(23 Mar 1870 - 12 Jan 1935)
- Dr. Sanborn went to Usal last week, and brought back Joe Lockhart, the brake man, who was run over by the logging train. He found him in a very low condition, his left hand and arm being badly lacerated and the right foot contused. at present he is doing very well.

What came near being a serious accident occurred on Monday last. A portion of the trainway with a large pile of lumber came down upon the locomotive, smashing the smokestack and other gear, but fortunately just missed the cab so no one was injured. It is needless to say that Engineer Lockhart was badly scared. Sufficient repairs were made to allow of running the locomotive next day.

LUMBER CARS ARE DITCHED
Eight lumber cars, heavily laden, and the property of the Pacific Lumber Co., left the track at Metropolitan, on the Northwestern Pacific railroad, shortly after 6:30 o’clock yesterday morning, delaying the morning train and damaging the lumber with which they were loaded.
Owing to some unaccountable reason, one of the cars jumped the track, the others piling up about it in a heap. When No. 2, of the Northwestern Pacific came up to the wreck, another train from Eureka was dispatched to Metropolitan to transfer the passengers, who were brought on to this city.
A crew of men was sent to the scene of the wreck by the Pacific Lumber Co. officials, and under the efficient direction and supervision of Conductor Joseph Lockhart, the cars were soon replaced on the rails and taken to their destination.
