On 30 May 1714 Elizabeth, widow of Moses (2) Rowley, executed an unusual and interesting conveyance, recorded in East Haddam Deeds, 1:553:
To all Christian people to whom these presents shall come. 1, Elizabeth Rowley, widow & Relique to Moses Rowley, late of haddom on the east side in ye County of hartford in hurmajesties Colloney of Conectecut In New England, deceased,; whearas upon ourcoming from falmouth in the county of barnstable in ye province of the Massachusetts Bay in afores'd New England, my Late husband made a conveyance of his Lands he was possessed off in falmoth afores'd unto Thomas Parker and Joseph parkerof s'd falmoth, which convayance was utterly against my consent, I haveing thearfore Resarved my Right of dowry or thirds thearin, as the Law allows, and more over, whearas what was left me for my maintainance by my s'd husband at his decease in haddom was by Reson of ye frowns of providence, but litter, in so much that I have bin fain to Rely myselfe upon there kindness of my sons, Moses Rowley and John fuller, of aboves'd haddom, which nesecitates me to Look out for my due, either for my own present Relief, or to Retalliate these that have and are doing for me, or both: Thcarfore know ye and all men, &c, that 1, the s'd Elizabeth Rowle, for the Resons above mentioned, as allso for and in consideration of Love, good will and affection which I have and doe bare to my s'd sons, Moses Rowley and John Fuller, afores'd, have given and grantted . . . In equall proportion to them . . . all my Right of dowry and power of thirds which Is my just due from the lands my husband conveyed away as aforcs'd, as allso whatever hereafter may be due from the same....
