Death
Mildred SchoonFuneral services were held Oct. 7 for Mildren Schoon, 78, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Monticello, with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Robert E. Slade officiated at the services.
Mildred Schoon of Monticello died Oct. 4 at the John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, following a sudden illness.
Mildred Heiken was born Nov. 21, 1909 in Cass Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of Warner and Anna Toenjes Heiken. She received her education in the Anamosa schools where she graduated in 1927. Mildred then taught in the rural schools of Linn and Jones counties.
Mildred Heiken and Carl Schoon were married March 19, 1932 at Rockford, IL. The couple made their home in Amber, Iowa. They later lived in Anamosa and Morley, where Mildred was the school librarian. Mildred continued her education and graduated from Upper Iowa University in 1954. In 1956 the couple moved to Monticello, where Mildred taught school for 34 years, retiring from the school system in 1973.
Mildred is survived by her husband; two sons, Wilmer Schoon of Cedar Rapids and Lee Schoon of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Wilma Sanner of Harlingen, TX, and a brother, Rex Heiken of Shueyville. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Casketbearers were Galen Engelbart, Wilfred Schatz, David Parcel, Don Woods, Robert Schumacher and William Mardorf.
Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of the arrangements.
