June 18, 1749. August Court, 1749. Mother and Executrix: SARAH CASTELLAW. Brothers: JOHN, JAMES and THOMAS CASTELLAW. Sisters: BATHIAH, SARAH and KATHERINE CASTELLAW. Executor: THOS. WHITMELL. Witnesses: SARAH SANDERSON, HARDY MOORE. Clerk of the Court: JOHN LOVICK (Grimes 66).

Bertie County In the Name of God Amen I William Castellaw being sick
in Body but of Perfect memory and Judgment first recomending my soul to
God that Gave it and my Body to be Buryed at the Descretion of my Executors
Do make this my last will and Testament this Eighteenth day of June Anno
--- One Thousand Seven hundred & forty Nine.
Imprimis My will is that my Loving mother Sarah Castellaw Enjoy my Plantation and all
the Appurtenances thereunto belonging lying -- Cashy Bridge the Court house et
During her Widdowhood and After her Death or marriage I will and Bequeath to
My Loving Brother John Castellaw the aforesd Plantation and All the lands &
Appurtenances thereunto belonging with all my rights of the Grist Mill & saw mill
being on the P Land to him His heirs and assigns for ever.
2. My will is that My Mother Sarah Castellah Enjoy the Labour and Use of All My
Negroes During her Widdowhood and After her Death or Marriage I Disppose of them
As follows (Viz)
3. I will and Bequeath to my Brother John Castellaw one Negro woman Named Mira
alias Moll and One Negro boy named David to him his heirs and assign for ever.
4. I will and Bequeath to my sister Bathiah Castellaw on Negro Girl Named Nan to her
her heirs & assigns for ever.
5. I will and Bequeath to my sister Sarah Castellaw One Negro Girl named Hannah and one
feather bed & furniture to her, her heirs assigns for ever.
6. I wil & bequeath to my Brother James Castellaw one Negro boy name Moses & one negro
girl named Doll to him his heirs & assigns for ever.
7. I will and Bequeath to my sister Katherine Castellaw on Negro Girl named Easter
to her, her heirs and assigns for ever.
8. I will And Bequeath to my Brother Tho.s Castellaw one Grey horse Branded thus 4
on the Off Buttock to him his heirs & assigns for ever
9. After my Debts and Funeral charges are paid I Give all my Cattle & hogs to my
Mother Sarah Castellaw to her heirs heirs & assigns for ever - and all my horse ?
I Give to My sister Sarah My brother James & my sister Katherine to be Equally Divi
ded amongst them share & share alike to them their heirs and assigns for ever.
Lastly I constitute and Appoint My Loving Mother Sarah Castellaw and Friend Thos. Whitinell
Joyully My Executrix & Executory of this my last will and testament Declaring all former
wills to be void In -- thereof I have here unto set my hand & seal the date above
signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us
