Death
Death of Johnson Poppe.Gerd Johnson Poppe, a prominent farmer living in the vicinity of Langworthy, died at his home last Monday morning following an illness of two years' duration. During the past winter his condition gradually became worse. His pastor, Rev. Paul T. Gutknecht, was called to his home last Friday afternoon and administered holy communion.
Mr. Poppe was born in Ruesphal , Ost Friesland, Germany, August 17, 1849. He came to America at the age of 16 years. He was married to Mary Balster, October 25, 1883. This union, although fraught with hardships, especially in the earlier years, was a happy one. In addition to his wife, Mr. Poppe is survived by the following children: Arend, Margaret, Conrad and George; also five grand-children. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Schoon, and two brothers, Frederich and Henry.
The funeral services were held this morning at 11 o'clock at the family home near Langworthy, and at 12 o'clock at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church, of which the deceased was a faithful member, Rev. Gutknecht officiated at both services.
