CLINTON - Richard Harold Lloyd, 69, passed away suddenly on July 15, 2016, due to complications from heart surgery.
Richard was born in Clinton, NY, and graduated from Clinton High School and Cornell University. Following college, Richard spent two years serving as a Peace Corp Volunteer in Colombia. Upon completing his service, he purchased a motorcycle and rode it home from Panama to Clinton. Richard's first job after college was as an extension agent and at an extension convention he met Jane Heiken. He sold his motorcycle to buy her an engagement ring and they were married in 1973. Together they moved to Iowa and raised four children. He owned and operated a sporting goods store called Lloyd's Lake and Land. The family moved back to Clinton in 1994 to be closer to Richard's aging parents. Richard worked as a sales agent for a seed company. He also operated a small vegetable farm and was known for growing the best sweet corn. In recent years, Richard was retired and spent much of his time at his family's camp in the Adirondacks selectively thinning timber to mill for his woodworking projects and making maple syrup. Richard especially enjoyed grilling chicken, fishing, eating popcorn and talking politics. He was a hard worker, an avid reader and a great letter writer. He loved tiny spatulas, cooking pancakes on Sunday morning and ducks in a row.
Richard is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jane Lloyd, Clinton; children, David and Ashley Lloyd, of Lander, WY, Diane Lloyd, of Portland, OR, Thomas Lloyd, of Clinton, NY, and Mary Lloyd and Brian Heck, of Portland, OR; and three granddaughters, Sierra, Autumn and June; his brother, Fred Lloyd, of Fine, NY; his sister and brother-in-law, Denise Lloyd and Jamie Campbell, of Kennett Square, PA.
