Laurence George "Pete" Thurman Jr

Pete was studing chemistry when he got drafted into the Army Medical Core. Because of his chemistry background they had him stay stateside, hand making medicine for the troops. After WWII was over Pete went to UC San Francisco for pharmacy. Pete's father was also a pharmacist and had received his degree from UC Berkeley. [oral history from daughter Eileen]

Marriage
Eileen Pape thinks that her parents met at a dance. They both attended Palo Alto High School, but didn't really know each other there. They met sometime after high school and got married when they were only 20 years old when the US entered WWII. They were married in Lyle'sparents living room on Purissma Road.

Before their marriage, Lyle's Aunt Adele wrote her a letter telling Lyle not to marry Pete. Lyle's sister Marion thinks she said something like, "Why would you want to marry that nincompoop"! Lyle was so offended she didn't speak to Aunt Adele for about five years.

Kern Man's Death Is Blamed On Poison
BAKERSFIELD - Lawrence George Thurman, 50, of 3901 Pontiac St., Bakersfield, was dead on arrival at the Kern General Hospital at 10:50 a.m. after apparently swallowing nicotine sulphate, a weed killer.
According to the coronor's office, Thurman had been in ill health after an injury three months agao. He was found in the family garage by his wife, Harriet.
