The unexpected death of Mrs. Garrett Eiben occurred at the John McDonald hospital Sunday afternoon; March 4, at 4 o’clock. Mrs. Eiben had suffered a severe attack of influenza seven years ago, and had been in failing health since that time. She became afflicted with heart trouble in November, 1933,and last Sunday morning suffered a very severe attack which culminated in her death.
Mrs. Eiben was a daughter of Peter and Mary Schegel. She was born at Milford, Neb., September 6, 1906. She was married to Garrett Eiben at Omaha, March 15, 1931. Mr. and Mrs. Eiben lived at various points in Nebraska, while the farmer was engaged in working for a company doing road construction work. They later came to Monticello, when Mr. Eiben entered into the garage business in the town. He is at present conducting this business in the garage on Main Street. No children were born to this union.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 7, at one o’clock at the E.F. Eiben home in Castle Grove Township, and at 1:30 at St. Peter & Paul’s Lutheran church. Both services were in charge of Rev. G. Wolf, pastor of that church. Burial was made at the Prairie Hill cemetery.
