Services were held Aug 23 fro John Stiffler, 89, at the Peace United Church of Christ with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello. The Rev. Robert Pike officiated.
Mr. Stiffler, Monticello died Aug 25 at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.
He was born Feb 3, 1913 at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, the son of Benjamin and Emma Schneiter Stiffler. He was educated in rural schools near his home and spent his life farming the area.
He married Bernice Burrichter on December 6, 1944 at the Peace United Church of Christ. The couple made their home on a farm in Lovell Township. They farmed there until 1981 when they moved to Monticello.
John was a member of Peace United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; a son Larry of Monticello; two daughters, Joanne Baumgartner of Oxford, Marilyn Blattner of Cedar Rapids; four grandsons; a sister Louise Null of Monticello and a brother, William Bauman of Monticello. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Casket bearers were John Schneiter, Paul Schneiter, Richard Mardorf, George Schneiter, Harold Schneiter and Eugene Hall. Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello was in charge of arrangements.
