MONTICELLO….Funeral services for Frederick Bartels, 76, were held Friday afternoon at St. Matthew Lutheran church. Interment was in Wayne Zion cemetery. The Rev. Anton Kirkegaard officiated.
Mr. Bartels died at John McDonald hospital Wednesday morning, Dec. 18, following a brief illness. He was born near Monticello Feb. 6, 1892, the son of R. Herman and Elaine Husmann Bartels.
He received his education in Jones county rural schools. On Dec. 30, 1918, he married Anna Otten and the couple farmed for a number of years in Delaware County. They moved to Monticello in 1943.
He was preceded in death by a son, his parents, three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife: one daughter, Mrs. Gerhard (Bertha) Hansen, Monticello; two grandsons; three brothers, Gerhard and Herman of Monticello, and Will of Hopkinton; five sisters, Mrs. Fred (Anna) Lange, Mrs. Minnie Herren and Mrs. Mary Wright, all of Monticello, Mrs. Louis (Lena) Arthofer of Dubuque, and Mrs. Louis (Emma) Schrader of Hopkinton.
