Rev William W Penney
(1790 - 1800 - 1833)
About Reverend John Penney
Rev John Penney married Fanny Penney and had several children; two sons called Eli and William Penney. William Penney is where George Jordan Penney came from, who was my great, great, grandfather. George Jordan Penney was the father of Jennie Rena Penney, Maggie Rena's mother and my dad Charles Gillis's grandmother.
The Rev John and wife Fanny hailed from England and landed in Anderson County, KY, where there were no churches when they arrived. He, and his sons, were the foundation for starting just about all the churches in this county. Rev John and William both preached at Goshen Baptist church (still here and active), and the Salt River Baptist church (still here and active) and we think gave land for Lawrenceburg Baptist to be started, as well as Penney's Chapel (in the county). The Rev John and his son William, both died in the great cholera epidemic of 1833 in Anderson County, KY. Eli, the brother of William, was the grandfather of J. C. Penney, the catalog store millionaire. So we are descendants of this great family.
The Rev John and wife Fanny are buried in the land adjoining our golf course (old Bob-o-link) and many visitors here attend their gravesite.
I have located several baptismal records at the Fox Creek Christian church for this family/my family and they still have a bible owned by J. C. Penney in their church archives.............wow!
