Death
Obituary Date: 13 Feb 1918, Steuben Republican.Augustus Cady Phillips was born in Athen county, Ohio, on the 23rd of Feb, 1834, and died on the 26th of Jan, 1918, aged 83 years, 11 months and 3 days. He was united in marriage to Tibitha White on the 14th day of Nov, 1858, and to the union were born eight children, two dying in infancy. During the past year his wife and three children, Leander Phillips, Flora Phillips Shook and Luretta Rowe have died, leaving of the family now living, Abraham Phillips, Dow Phillips and Ella Pew. He leaves also a brother and sister back in Ohio. He moved from Athens County, Ohio, to Steuben county, Indiana with his family in 1870, and settled on the farm which was the home until a couple of years ago, when the farm home burned and it was then that the condition of their health made rebuilding seem inadvisable. He was one of the old settlers in the county; chopped out his farm and suffered the trials and hardships, as well as privations incident to a life of pioneering. Having lost the sight of his eyes some years ago, it rendered his last years rather inactive; but through it all the same jovial spirits predominated his being and he never seemed to chafe under this misfortune.
