Jans Luppen Siebels died at the home of his son, Garrett Siebels in Castle Grove Township, last Saturday, December 19, at 3 o'clock. He been taken ill a week, before with a severe case of pneumonia. During his Illness he was visited, daily by his pastor and received the Lord’s Supper before his death. He was tenderly cared for by his son and wife during his last hours on. earth.
Mr. Siebels was born January 28, 1852 at Middles Westerloog, near Aurick, Germany. He was a son of the late Casper and Talke Siebels. He was baptized and reared in the Lutheran church, of his native land. At the proper age he was confirmed and ever remained faithful to the teachings of his church. He was married March 2, 1881, to Inse Margaretha Harms at Wittmund, Ost-Friesland, Germany. The next day after their marriage they emigrated to the United States. They settled first in the vicinity of Amber, and later lived for 23 years in Grove township. Mr. Siebels was formerly a member of the Zion’s Lutheran church congregation. When the St. Peter and St. Paul’s church was founded in Castle Grove township, he transferred his membership. Mrs. Siebels died February 22, 1913 and a daughter, Miss Nellie Siebels died June 4, of this year.
Mr. Siebels removed to Monticello in 1916, where he continued to live until his last illness. He was the father of seven children, five sons and two daughters. The surviving are: William; Garrett and Anton if Castle Grove township; John, of Morley: Siebelt, of Anamosa, and Mrs. Henry Lubben, of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and one sister, a resident of Marshalltown, and one brother of Amber.
The funeral services were held last Tuesday at St. Peter's and Paul’s church in Castle Grove township. They were In charge of Rev, O. Sitzler. Interment was made at the Prairie Hill cemetery in Castle Grove township.
