Winston Lewis Prouty
(1 Sep 1906 - 10 Sep 1971)
US Senator, US Congressman. He attended the Military Institute in New Jersey and the Lafayette College, Pennsylvania and was the brother of George H. Prouty the Governor of Vermont, (1908-10). He was a member of the Vermont State House of Representatives (1941, 1945, 1947), chairman of Vermont State Water Conservation Board, (1948-50) and director of his family owned lumber and building material enterprises. In 1951, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-second Congress and reelected to the next three succeeding Congresses serving until 1959. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was elected to the US Senate in 1959 and served until death at age 65.
