John Sutton Petty
(29 Jan 1819 - 26 Dec 1887)
In Anderson Co, Kentucky, on Aug. 17, 1838, John Sutton Petty, son of Samuel Briant Petty and Tabitha Buntain, married the 14 year old Juliett Adeline Boston, daughter of Joel Boston and Sarah Hawkins. John had been born in the area Jan. 29, 1819, and Juliett around 1824. Though John arrived relatively late in Texas, he fought for the cause of Texas in the Mexican War.
Juliett did not live to raise the last children she bore, but John was married to Mahala Jane Henson in 1855 and had a second family of seven more children. In 1860 he had moved to another grant in the Bryans Mill area of Cass Co. and continued as a farmer there until his death on Dec 26, 1887. He was buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near his home (Daughters of Republic of Texas 219).
