Funeral services for Elsie Dirks, 81, were held Monday, Dec. 7 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church with burial at the church cemetery. The Rev. Lenwood Monte officiated at the services.
Elsie Dirks of Monticello died Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Senior Home in Monticello following an extended illness.
Elsie Johanna Henrietta Antons was born July 2, 1911 in Center Junction, the daughter of Gerhard Antons and Dena Lurkens Dirks. She attended rural schools near Center Junction.
Elsie Antons and Rhinehart Dirks were married January 6, 1932 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Langworthy area before moving to Center Junction in 1960. She then worked as a custodian for the Center Junction School. Her husband preceded her in death on April 24, 1982. She moved to the Senior Home in March of 1988.
Survivors include a son, Melvin; three daughters, Margaret Gravel, Lois Poppe, and Joyce Osterkamp, all of Center Junction; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Raymond Antons and Richard Antons, both of Center Junction; three sisters, Caroline Ortgies of Monticello, Selma Catlett of Anamosa, and Ann Hinrichs of Center Junction.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter and three sisters.
Casketbearers were Bob Grael, Bob Gray, Shane Dirks, Dean Osterkamp, Marvin Rickels and Dennis Ortgies.
Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
