Death
Mrs. Talka Katherine Dirks, the wife of Diedrich Dirks, died at her home in Monticello, last Thursday evening, after an illness of a considerable length of time. The funeral services were held last Sunday, the same being conducted by her pastor, Rev. S. Ide, of St. Mathews Lutheran church. Mrs. Dirks was born in Marks, Germany, in 1851. At the age of 30 years, she came to the United States, and was married the same year to Diedrich Dirks. They were residents of Scotch Grove township, for a number of years, but recently have resided at Monticello. The decedent is survived by her husband and five daughters and one son. The daughters are Mrs. Fred Himes, Mrs. Kate Schlimmer, Mrs. J. D. Olmstead, Matie and Mary Dirks. The son, George Dirks, is in the army, and at last accounts was stationed at Camp Merritt, New Jersey. Mrs. Dirks had a long and painful illness, but bore her afflictions with remarkable fortitude. She was comforted with the assurances of her church, and went down into the valley of death with the hope of those who have faith in the teachings of the Master. The funeral services were largely attended by the friends of the deceased. Interment was had in Oakwood cemetery.Burial
