Services for Richard Gerhard Rickels were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mar 15, from Wayne Zion Lutheran church with Rev. Otto Zwanziger officiating. Burial was at Wayne Zion cemetery. He died Mar. 12 at 112 West Grand St.in Monticello.
Born Jan 1, 1879 in Wayne Township, he was a son of Gerd Rickels and Taalka Katharina Tobiasen. He lived with his parents on a farm, later moved to Amber with them until they died. After his parents' death he made his home with the John Poppe's of Amber and for the past 10 months in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ambuehl of Monticello.
Survivors include his brothers, John H. Rickels, Monticello and William Rickels, Amber; two sisters Lizzie, Mrs. Oscar Ambuehl of Monticello and Matie, Mrs. John Poppe of Amber. He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry;/ three sisters, Mary, Mrs. John Hayen, Kate, Mrs. Tobias Folkers and Lena, Mrs. Michael Tobiason.
