Theophilus Williams
(Abt 1695 - Bet 1760 and 1770)
Theophilus' name appears on a list of freeholders living between Salmn Creek and Cashy River in Chowan Pct of Albemarle Co., NC, 9 Jan 1719, along with his father, John Williams. His brother John's will, probated 18 May 1722, mentions a "cousin John, son of Theophilus Williams".
On 17 May 1739, Theophilus and Christain sold 400 acres to Thomas Barker. This land was part of a patent granted to John Williams Jr. and part of a tract granted Theophilus Pugh at Village Swamp, adjacent Thomas Bond at Falling Run.
In the May 1742 Bertie Co. court minutes, Theophilus, on oath, declared his rights, viz: Theophilus, Christian,Joseph, James, Esther, Lewis and Feribee Williams, white persons. 12 black slaves were also included.
Theophilus sold land to Jethro Butler on 10 Sept 1742 "to be laid out according to the will of Thomas Busby." Then 24 Sept 1742, he and his wife sold to Theophilus Pugh of Nansemond Co. Va, 240 acres on the north side of Foaling Run adjoining Needham Bryan, Thomas Bond, Thomas Barker, part of a patent granted Theophilus Williams for 640 acres on 8 August 1728.
