John Williams
(Bef 1617 - Aft 9 Mar 1691)
John Williams came to Isle of Wight Co. Virginia in 1638. On September 29, 1645, he received 250 acres of land in Warwick Co., north of Wight Co. for transportaion of passengers, and on August 30, 1647, 150 acres in Warwick Co.
A deed dated 6 April 1677 in Isle of Wight Co. VA gives an assignment of land to John Williams, Planter, from Edward Webb and his wife Hannah. This deed was witnessed by William Bradshaw and an Isaac Williams.
John and Thomas Williams purchased 400 acres of land in Isle of Wight Co. from George Pierce, 9 September 1681. Then in 1682, John Williams purchased from William Boddie on Cypress Swamp.
It is not known how Isaac and Thomas Williams are related to John, though it is possible they are kin. There is also a Lewis Williams who died around 1669 in Surry Co.,Virginia, who had a son, Lewis, who died about 1717 in Isle of Wight Co, VA, who might be related.
John Williams also owned land in Surry Co. Virginia, which adjoined Isle of Wight Co, and this land is mentioned in his will. It was half of a grant of 1200 acres which he patented with John Browne in 1685.
In 1670 in Isle of Wight Co, VA, John Williams was called son-in-law, and Ann Williams, granddaughter, by John Whitley.

Will
In his will, made 9 March 1691, and recorded 9 August 1692, John Williams mentioned wife Ann and gave his eldest son, John, his Manor Plantation, but he added that should John prefer to stay in Surry Co. on the plantation on which he was seated, the then bequest should redound to the youngest son, Theopilus. He gave son, William, 200 acres of land near Mandew's; son, Thomas, 150 acres in Surry, this being part of the tract on which son, John, then lived; son Nicholas, 150 acres, a part of the same tract; and son Richard another part of the same tract. He made gifts to his daughters, Mary and Jane; and to his granddaughters, Ann, Bridget and Mary Browne; and to his boy, Daniel Hickman, to Daniel Long, Jr., and to Thomas Wright and wife.Witnesses: Boaz Gwin, Alexander Mathewes, and Thomas Gayner.
