Individual Details
Olive Pixley
(1801 - 1851)
Asa and Olive left Herkimer Co NY by Erie Canal boat to farm in Norwalk, Ohio in 1822 or 1823. The family lore is that Asa Jr was born about the same time father Asa Cole died. Olive, writing to Asa Cole's family back in Herkimer Co. NY, would tell of how she was struggling in the years after her husband's death. In 1834, Asa Jr's spinster Aunt Hannah Cole went west to bring him back to the Cole family farm in Herkimer to be raised by his Aunts and Uncles there.
In 1844, Justus, who was also stuggling in poverty was brought back east by spinster Aunt Almyra Cole to the Cole family farm. The family story didn't mention anything about Olive remarrying or having additional children.
Asa Jr and brother Justus married, had families and lived out their lives on adjacent farms in Herkimer Co. They had a cattle business together, until Asa Jr was killed in a cattle stampede when his horse bolted in 1875. (Chalmers, her 3x great grandfather was the son, Asa Cole Jr.)
