"The mother of Daniel Phillips was present at the massacre at Wyoming" (Beers, 707). This was a battle during the American Revolution on July 3, 1778 between Patriots and Loyalists accompanied by Iroquois raiders in the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania. Over 300 patriots were killed in the battle and settlers claimed that the Iroquois raiders hunted and killed fleeing Patriots, torturing ones that surrendered until they died.
